Flower Paintings from the Joseon Dynasty
Gallery Hyundai, located near Gyeongbokgung Palace, is presenting “Flower Paintings from the Joseon Dynasty,” an exhibition that shows the beauty of traditional hwajodo, (화조도) pictures, a type of minhwa folk paintings (민화), that focuses on flowers and birds.

Hwajodo is one of the many genres of minhwa, and was probably the most popular among the public. The flowers and birds that appear in these paintings transcend reality and the ideal world, and reflect a cheerful and warm-hearted soul.

The exhibition focuses particularly on the unique visual formative language and color aesthetics of Joseon folk paintings.
