Presented by the Korean American Traditional Music Association, 'When Gayageum meets Sori' will be held on Friday, May 20th 7:30pm at the Korean Cultural Center, Los Angeles 3rd Fl., Ari Hall.

This performance is presented as a part of the Korean Cultural Center’s 3rd season of the 2016 ARI PROJECT: performing arts series, featuring a rich program of various performing arts programs including Korean traditional music to world music, as well as contemporary dance and theater.

The Gayageum, a traditional Korean zither-like string instrument, with 12 strings, is one of the most well- known traditional Korean musical instruments. The performance, titled, “When Gayageum meets Sori” depicts how the Gayageum, blends with the Sori (singing voice). “Pansori” is a Korean genre of musical storytelling performed by a vocalist and a drummer. The music is usually performed by one sorikkun (singer) and one gosu (a drummer).

About Ji Yun-Ja
Ji Yun-Ja is the President of the Korean American Traditional Music Association. She is one of the most talented Gayaguem players in North America. She was designated as a “foreign honorary successor” of Traditional Intangible Cultural Asset by Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2014. Ji Yun-Ja has shared her passion and love for Korean music with her students in America, spreading the splendor and harmony of Korean culture thousands of miles from her homeland.
