President Moon Jae-in spoke over the phone with U.S. President Donald Trump on May 9, one day after a summit between China and North Korea.

President Moon discussed the release of the detained U.S. citizens in North Korea and prospects for the upcoming U.S.-North Korea summit, said Cheong Wa Dae.

President Trump said that, “The three freed U.S. citizens are healthy and their release will have a positive effect on the U.S.-North Korea summit.”

President Moon responded to the U.S. leader by saying that, “The decision of their release was a well-made decision in terms of both human rights and from the humanitarian perspective.”

He also said that the release of the detained U.S. citizens is attributed to the determination and leadership of President Trump.

In regard to the U.S.-North Korea summit, President Trump said that U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo “had a very productive discussion with Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong Un” while visiting Pyeongyang. The U.S. president also added that the date and time for the planned summit will be announced soon.
