A hotline connecting the leaders of both Koreas will go online April 20, the South Korean government said April 19.

“The direct hotline will go into operation tomorrow, and a trial call will be conducted between officials of the two sides,” said Kim Eui-kyeom, spokesman for the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae in Seoul, in a media briefing on the results of the sixth meeting of the Inter-Korean Summit Preparatory Committee.

Saying the hotline will connect Cheong Wa Dae to the State Affairs Commission in Pyongyang, the spokesman said when the first call between the two leaders will take place has yet to be determined.

He also announced that six high-ranking officials will accompany President Moon Jae-in to the summit: Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok, National Security Office Director Chung Eui-yong, National Intelligence Service Director Suh Hoon, Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon, Defense Minister Song Young-moo and Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha. The seating arrangement for the summit remains undecided, however, and will be set once the North finalizes its arrangements.

The preparatory committee will hold two rehearsals ahead of the summit: a run-through April 24 with the division heads and a more detailed and official rehearsal with more committee members.

“North Korea will also send a team [to Panmunjom] for similar rehearsals either April 24 or 25,” the spokesman said.

The summit situation room will open April 24 on the third floor of the Freedom House, located on the South Korean side of Panmunjom. It will manage operations on the day of the summit under the direction of Cheong Wa Dae and key ministry officials. Another situation room will also be opened April 24 at KINTEX in the northern Seoul suburb of Goyang.
