Live global airing of inter-Korean talks to start with 1st handshake by leaders

- Both sides agree on protocol, security, media coverage in 2nd round of working-level talks

The first meeting between President Moon Jae-in and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, chairman of the State Affairs Commission, in their April 27 summit will be broadcast live around the world, starting with their initial handshake.​

During the second round of working-level talks for the summit held April 18 at Tongilgak in the North Korean side of the United Nations truce village of Panmunjeom, both sides agreed on live coverage of the summit’s major events.​

Kwon Hyuk-Ki, director of the presidential office of Cheong Wa Dae’s Chunchugwan Press Center, said in a media briefing April 18, “In the second round of working-level talks for the South-North Korean summit, the two sides reached a broad agreement on protocol, security and media coverage. They agreed to deliver the major programs and movements of the historic summit to the entire world, starting with the first handshake between the two leaders.” ​

Both sides will also hold additional consultations on detailed plans related to protocol, security and media coverage.​

The April 18 talks lasted from 10 a.m. to 3:15 p.m., and was attended by a dozen officials from the two sides. The North Korean delegation was headed by Kim Chang Son and consisted of Kim Pyong Ho, Kim Chol Gyu, Ma Won Chun, Sin Won Chol, Ri Hyon and Ro Kyong Chol. The South Korean delegation, led by National Intelligence Service Second Deputy Director Kim Sang-gyun, had Youn Kun Young, director for Government Situation Room at Cheong Wa Dae; Cho Han Ki, a Protocol Secretary to the President; Chunchugwan Director Kwon; and Shin Yong Wook, vice chief of Presidential Security Service. ​
