A liaison office between two Koreas, where officials from both sides can communicate with each other 24 hours a day, all year round, will open on Sept. 14 inside the Gaeseong Industrial Complex in Gaeseong, Hwanghaebuk-do Province, North Korea.

"The opening ceremony for the liaison office between the South and the North will be held in front of the office’s main gate at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 14,” said unification ministry spokesperson Baik Tae Hyun.

"After the two Koreas agreed to establish a liaison office in the Panmunjeom Declaration, officials have been meeting for discussions and to talk about construction,” said Baik. “The site will be used for negotiations, arranging meetings, supporting non-governmental interaction, and serve as an accommodation site for people travelling across the border.”

“The office will be the main communications channel at all times for the development of inter-Korean relations, for the easing of military tension, and for creating peace on the Korean Peninsula,” Baik added.

The office will be co-headed by Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung from South Korea and the vice chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Country from the North. The heads of the office will attend regular weekly meetings to discuss major inter-Korean issues.
