The President to Send Special Envoys to North Korea

President Moon Jae-in decided to send a special presidential delegation to Pyeongyang on September 5.

At around 10:30 this morning, the South sent a message by wire to North Korea, proposing to dispatch special envoys, and the North responded in the afternoon saying that it would accept the emissaries.

The special envoys will have extensive discussions with their North Korean counterparts, covering a concrete schedule for the upcoming inter-Korean summit and the development of inter-Korean relations as well as denuclearization and the settlement of peace on the Korean Peninsula. At the 4th high-level inter-Korean talks on August 13, the two sides agreed to hold the inter-Korean summit in Pyeongyang within September.
