Korean and Sri Lankan government officials and business leaders came together at a business forum and luncheon at the Grand Hyatt Seoul on Nov. 29 to discuss ways to further strengthen economic cooperation.

The event was attended by Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, on an official state visit to Korea in celebration of 40 years of diplomatic ties between Seoul and Colombo.

Some 120 people attended the event, including Sri Lankan Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade Malik Samarawickrama, members of the Sri Lanka-Korea Business Council at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Minister of SMEs and Startups Hong Jong Haak and Chairman Park Sung-taek of the Korean Federation of SMEs.

"The Korean government will continue to provide support to expand economic cooperation between our two countries. I ask that the Sri Lankan government take an interest in Korean companies and assist them in their activities in your local market," said Minister Hong.

Furthermore, Minister Samarawickrama stressed the strong ties between Seoul and Colombo, expressing hope that Korean investment companies would establish lasting relationships with their Sri Lankan counterparts.
