The Korean Film Night was held on the sidelines of the 64th Berlin International Film Festival on February 10 in the German capital. Over 600 people from film industries around the world, including directors whose works were being screened at the festival, attended the event and were introduced to seven Korean films, the highlight being last year’s “Snowpiercer” by director Bong Joon-ho.

Among the directors present at the event were LeeSong He-il whose “Night Flight” was invited to the panorama section of the festival this year. Actors Lee Jae-joon and Kwak Si-yang, who appeared in the movie, also attended the event. “Night Flight” is LeeSong’s second film to be screened at the festival, after his “White Night” was shown in 2013.

There were also directors Kim Jina, whose “Final Recipe” was shown in the culinary cinema section, and Jung Yoon-suk, with his “Non-Fiction Diary” being shown in the forum section.

Kelvin Kyung Kun Park, with “A Dream of Iron,” and Lee Yong-seung, with “10 Minutes,” were also there. Yoon Ga-eun was also present, whose “Sprout” was invited to the generation section, a category for films for children and adolescents.

Among other guests were Berlin International Film Festival forum section director Christoph Terhechte and panorama section director Wieland Speck. There were also Venice Film Festival artistic director Alberto Barbera and Moscow International Film Festival program director Kirill Razlogov. Finally, there were also officials and buyers from the international film festivals held in São Paulo, Cannes, Karlovy Vary and Venice.

“Snowpiercer,” which was invited to the forum section of the festival, will be released in Germany on April 3. There will be previews held in Berlin and Frankfurt.

“There is great interest in Korean films. They are getting a lot of attention in the European Film Market, being held alongside the Berlin International Film Festival,” said a Korean Film Council official. “There are dozens of business meetings held at the Korean film booth every day,” he concluded.
