Hong Sang-soo on Feb. 29 won the award for best director at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival for his latest film "The Woman Who Ran."
"I'm a person who lives in a small world. I don't paint big pictures and try to avoid having such intentions. Instead, I prefer to focus on what's delicate, the smaller details," said Hong, who snagged the Silver Bear with his 24th feature-length film.
His movie is about a woman's encounters with three friends while her husband is away on a rare business trip. Actress Kim Min-hee plays the protagonist Gam-hee.
The festival's jury said, "Hong Sang-soo depicts Gam-hee's encounters in a restrained and minimalist way. The film doesn't reveal everything but hints at the possibility of an infinite number of worlds."
