The 22nd Jeonju International Film Festival this year will screen 186 films -- 116 features and 70 shorts -- from 48 countries.

The festival's organizing committee on April 6 released the event's lineup at a news conference held at Jeonju Digital Independent Cinema in Jeonju, Jeollabuk-do Province.

To run from April 29 to May 8 under the slogan "Film Goes On," the festival will show its selected works at four theaters in Jeonju on 17 screens and through the Korean online media platform Waave.

The opening film, "Father" by Serbian director Srdan Golubovic, is about a day laborer who lives in a remote Serbian village with his wife and two children. This movie shows life in a country with a poor social welfare system and a wide gap between rich and poor.

The closing film is the animated "Josep" by French cartoonist Aurel.

The festival's special sections include "Special Focus: Corona, New Normal," which covers the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and "Special Focus: I Am Independent," which features indie productions by seven female directors.

More information on the event is available on the festival's official website: https://22eng2021.jeonjufest.kr.
