A country-wide civil defense drill took place on March 14. This is the first national drill this year. During the 20-minute drill, starting at 2.p.m. with a siren, all cars pulled over and people stayed indoors. It was a civil air defense drill in which people practiced their preparation and response in the case of an emergency or a required evacuation.

In some locales, the defense drill organizers made sure to involve people with multi-cultural backgrounds, including students from international education organizations, such as the Busan International Foreign School, the Kwangju Foreign School, the Taejon Christian International School, and support centers for multicultural families.

Prior to the drill, the National Emergency Management Agency released a total of 150,000 copies of a leaflet in English, Japanese, Mandarin and Vietnamese, in which it informs residents how to use fire extinguishers, how to do CPR and how to deal with and behave during dangerous situations.

A CPR demonstration and a crisis management program were held for citizens who sought cover in the underground floors of the Seoul Metropolitan Government complex.

Korea will hold nationwide civil disaster drills in May and civil air defense drills in August this year.
