On April 24, black-winged stilts, Himantopus himantopus, a bird species that is spread across temperate and tropical regions, were spotted in Jigok-myeon Village in Hamyang-gun County, Gyeongsangnam-do Province.
A total of 15 black-winged stilts, a bird rarely seen in Korea, were seen searching for food in a rice field and then rising and soaring in the sky as a single flock.

There are 13 official species of black-winged stilts all over the world, and these particular birds showed up in Korea alongside some pied avocets, another species that is rarely seen in Korea.
