An 82-year old man infected with COVID-19 and his daughter met for the first time in over 100 days.
A "hug curtain" installed to prevent COVID-19 blocked them. The daughter wore plastic gloves, put her arms through the holes of the curtain and wrapped them around her father's neck, and he hugged her back tight. The two could not physically touch each other due to the curtain but this was enough for them to feel each other's warmth.
Sebastiao Moreira, a Brazilian photographer at the Sao Paulo bureau of the Spanish wire service EFE, on July 2 captured this father-daughter reunion in the Brazilian city.
Amid the unprecedented chaos worldwide due to COVID-19, an exhibition of photos capturing these moments opened in Seoul last week. The pictures were taken by 70 photographers for leading media such as The New York Times, Xinhua News Agency of China and Reuters in some of the world's leading cities including Seoul, New York, London, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro and Johannesburg.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is hosting the Seoul International Photojournalism Exhibition: 2020 Seoul of New Hope through Dec. 20 both online and offline.
To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the 120 photos can be viewed online until Dec. 20 on the site: http://english.seoul.go.kr/SIPE2020.
Twenty-five of the photos are on display until Oct. 31 on the outer walls of the Seoul Metropolitan Library and 20 at Sangam DMC (Digital Media City) in Seoul's Mapo-gu District.
The city government said in a statement, "We hope that the 120 photos from around the world convey a message of courage and hope that we can jointly overcome COVID-19."
