Young taekwondo athletes from around the world measured their strength and ability against each other during the world championship that was just held at the Taekwondowon in Muju, Jeollabuk-do Province (North Jeolla Province).

The second World Taekwondo Federation World Cadet Taekwondo Championships concluded its four-day run on Aug. 26. The competition drew a total of 465 athletes from 59 countries.




Youths aged between 12 and 14 took part in the competition and the matches were held in ten different classes for both men and women. The competition was held in one-on-one tournaments of three rounds, and each round lasted 1 minute and 30 seconds.

The all-around victory in terms of total medals went to Korea in the men's division and to Iran in the women's. In the men's division, Korea came in first winning three gold medals, one silver and one bronze for a total of 63 points. Iran came next with two gold medals, two silvers and one bronze, followed by Russia with one gold, two silvers and one bronze.


In the women's category, defending champion Iran took home the overall female title as it grabbed five gold medals, one silver and one bronze for a total of 83 points. Russia came next with one gold, three silver and one bronze for 48 points, while the U.S. followed with one gold, one silver and one bronze.




The Good Fighting Spirit Award went to Palestine, as the state won its first medal in any category at any World Taekwondo Federation competition, while India received the Active Participation Award.
