Skeleton racer Yun Sung-bin is himself just as unstoppable as is his skeleton sled as it hurtles at dreadful speeds down the ice.

Yun became the first Asian to win a silver medal in skeleton at the Olympic sliding center in Igls, Austria, on Feb. 20 where the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF) World Championship took place. He posted a time of 3 minutes and 29.97 seconds after four runs, and stood on the podium alongside Russia’s Alexander Tretiakov to share second place. Martins Dukurs of Latvia took the gold with a time of 1 minute and 1.13 seconds.

After his two previous runs posted a time of 1 minute and 45.19 seconds, Yun began the third race in third place. He posted 52.37 seconds and 52.41 seconds in the third and fourth runs to maintain his place. Securing the bronze, Russia’s Tretiakov also posted the exact same times as his four runs. Yun revealed his joy when he realized that he came in second with Tretiakov.

Tretiakov, a gold medalist in skeleton at the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014, offered congratulatory words to Yun.

After becoming the first Asian skeleton racer to win a medal in the world championship, Yun said, “I'm really happy to be ranked second. I only have one more world championship this season. I will do my best to show what I've done so far.”
