The Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup was held in February this year at Phoenix Park in Pyeongchang-gun County, Gangwon-do Province, as part of test events for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The test races helped in terms of slope management and course layout.

The test competitions will begin with the International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Big Air World Cup at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Center in Pyeongchang-gun county, Gangwon-do Province, between Nov. 25 and 26. It will be followed by a four-day International Skating Union (ISU) Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Gangneung starting on Dec. 16.

With 2016 just about over and 2017 just around the corner, the test events will continue with the FIS Far East Cup 2017 (Jan. 16-17), the FIS Cross-Country World Cup (Feb. 3-5), the ISU World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships (Feb. 9-12), the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships (Feb. 16-19), the BMW IBSF World Cup Bob & Skeleton PyeongChang (Mar. 17-19) and the IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship (Apr. 2-8).

“With these test competitions, we will inspect the preparations for the Olympic Games, as well as improve operating abilities,” said an official from the Olympic organizing committee.

As part of efforts to raise global awareness of the biggest winter sporting event, a series of entertaining sideline events will accompany the test races, as well, such as performances by a military band, Korean pop singers, gugak singers and a children's choir.
