Korea is continuing to share its knowledge and experience about health care policies with Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Peru, Brazil and Mexico.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety invited 10 government officials from the six countries to the fifth K-Pharma Academy, held from March 27 to 31. The event is co-hosted by the three ministries.

The K-Pharma Academy began in 2013 to provide comprehensive information about Korea’s health care policies and relevant industry to Central and South American governments. Up until last year, a total of 66 officials from 11 countries have attended the yearly get together.

Attendees are provided with lectures related to Korean health care, including updates about the current state of clinical tests and the permit system for drugs and medical devices. They will visit health and medical institutes in six cities, including Seoul, Sejong and Osong, and will have one-on-one meetings with Korean medical companies.
In particular, this year’s representatives from Argentina, Brazil and Chile will have separate meetings with their Korean counterparts.

“The K-Pharma Academy connects Korea and Central and South America and promotes cooperation on health and welfare issues,” said Kim Ganglip, the deputy minister for healthcare policy. “We hope that the Korean government’s policy and Korean companies’ medical technology will be able to contribute to improving health care policies across Central and South America.”
