Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon visited Pyeongchang and Gangneung in Gangwon-do Province on June 15 to check on the construction process of the facilities for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and to lend some encouragement to the organizing committee.

At the PyeongChang Olympic Stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies for next year’s Winter Games will take place, President Lee Hee-beom of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee briefed the prime minister on the current state of the preparation process. Prime Minister Lee urged the organizers to “keep up with the good work and to finish the job safely and swiftly.”

He then moved on to the Olympic Park in Gangneung to take a look at facilities there and to encourage the organizing personnel in charge.

According to the organizing committee, the construction of six new facilities, out of the 12 planned Olympic venues, is 97 percent complete.
