The South Korean government asked North Korea to respond to its proposal for inter-Korean military talks on July 17.

On July 21, Spokesperson Moon Sang-gyun from the Ministry of National Defense pressed North Korea to give a positive response, saying, "It's an urgent task to ease military tension between Korea and the North, and to restore communication channels for military discussions.”
