Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon held a meeting with the chairman of the Consultative Council of Oman, Sheikh Khalid Al-Maawali, to talk about strengthening ties and expanding cooperation between Korea and Oman.

Prime Minister Lee commented on the steady growth seen in the relationship between Seoul and Muscat across all manner of fields since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1974. He said, “Korean companies, with their high tech and rich business experiences, will continue to participate in Oman’s plant, energy and construction projects. They will contribute to Oman’s economic growth by sharing technology and their experience of economic development.”

“Korean corporations have contributed to the Duqm Special Economic Zone since the beginning of its development,” said the Omani parliamentary speaker. “I hope that Korean companies will take part in many fields, not just in container ports or oil refining, but also in many other fields, such as tourism, manufacturing, distribution, gas and marine products.”

The prime minister also commented on Oman’s cooperation to keep the Korean Peninsula peaceful and stable, and urged the chairman to continue to work together to solve North Korean nuclear weapons issues.
