President Moon Jae-in attended a heads of state luncheon hosted by Secretary General Antonio Guterres at U.N. headquarters on Sept. 19. The leaders discussed the international state of affairs, including North Korean nuclear weapons issues.
President Moon was seated at the same table as U.N. Secretary General Antonio Guterres, U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, as well as heads of state from Jordan, Liberia, Guinea, Lithuania, Turkey, Switzerland and Ecuador.
Declaring that he will make the upcoming PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games into an "Olympics of Peace," President Moon asked that the leaders take notice and participate in spreading the message.
The president also added that Korea will continue to cooperate closely with the U.N. on tackling problems faced by the international community, on issues such as sustainable development, climate change and the refugee crisis.
