Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon emphasized that patience and consistency are needed in Seoul's inter-Korean policy in order to achieve unification on the Korean Peninsula.

During a commemorative dinner to mark the eighth anniversary of the Korea Peace Forum at the Sejong Center for Performing Arts on Nov. 14, Prime Minister Lee talked about the current state of inter-Korean relations. “The journey toward peaceful unification is a joint running process between two partners, the unpredictable North and our patience, which can easily run short,” he said.

The prime minister proposed that Seoul establish a pillar of inter-Korean policy designed to not be affected by any change of regime. He said, “Such a consistent inter-Korean policy would enable us to accumulate our efforts toward reconciliation and cooperation between the two Koreas. That would also enable us to win trust from both North Korea and the international community.”

Established in 2009, the Korea Peace Forum is a private organization designed to pursue alternative ways of enhancing peace on the Korean Peninsula and across Northeast Asia, and targets reconciliation and peaceful unification of the two Koreas.

The ceremony was attended by Unification Minister Cho Myung-Gyon and approximately 250 former and incumbent officials from the unification, foreign affairs and national security ministries.
