President Moon Jae-in held a meeting with his Lithuanian counterpart, President Dalia Grybauskaite, at Cheong Wa Dae on Feb. 7 to talk about strengthening ties and cooperation on the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games and on North Korea policies.

President Moon expressed gratitude for the visit of the leaders from the three Baltic nations --Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia -- who are here for the PyeongChang Winter Games, and said, “The visits and the three summits with the three countries will become a critical turning point for the relationship between Korea and the Baltic nations.”

“My second visit to Korea was to attend the naming ceremony for an LNG storage ship in 2014," said President Grybauskaite, who is on her third visit to Korea. “That event became the opportunity for Lithuania to attain energy independence and accelerate the relationship between Seoul and Vilnius.”

Regarding North Korea issues, President Moon said, “I’m grateful for Lithuania, a major member of the EU and NATO, for actively supporting the Korean government’s North Korea policies.”

“Taking the PyeongChang Olympics as an opportunity, an atmosphere for conversation and reconciliation between the two Koreas has been established,” said Moon. “Please continue to support us for this to continue.”

“I support the Korean government’s will to continue the peaceful mood after the PyeongChang Winter Games,” said President Grybauskaite. “Lithuania supports President Moon’s endeavors to bring the two Korea’s toward reconciliation.”
