As the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games are just one day away, both state and local governments in the U.S. have adopted resolutions hoping for a successful and peaceful Olympic Games.

As of Feb. 8, the number of PyeongChang Olympic resolutions adopted by U.S. governmental bodies has come to 37, including the governments of New Jersey, Georgia, New York, California, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Alaska, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago, the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today.

These resolutions stipulate hope for the success of the PyeongChang Games and hope that the Games would contribute to peace and prosperity across the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. Some of the resolutions also praise the fact that South and North Korean athletes will march together into the stadium during the Opening Ceremony, and praised the establishment of an inter-Korean team.

South Korea's foreign ministry stated in a press release that, “It’s a very unprecedented case that governments and councils across North America have sent a broad range of support for an Olympic Games that are taking place outside their country. We look forward to these messages leading up to the success of the PyeongChang Games and also hope that it raises global awareness of the Games.”

U.S. President Donald Trump joined in the cheers, as he posted two messages on Twitter on Feb. 7 saying that, “Best wishes to the Republic of Korea on hosting the Olympics! What a wonderful opportunity to show everyone that you are a truly GREAT NATION!,” and, “Congratulations to the Republic of Korea on what will be a MAGNIFICENT Winter Olympics! What the South Korean people have built is truly an inspiration!”

President Trump posted these messages with a video clip of himself speaking at the National Assembly of Korea in November last year, mentioning how Korea had risen from the ashes of war into an economic powerhouse.
