Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon met with Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipilä in Seoul on Feb. 19 during the Finnish leader's state visit to Korea to attend the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. The two discussed cooperative measure concerning issues on the Korean Peninsula.

Lee asked Finland and the international community at large to continue to cooperate in order so that peace could take root on the Korean Peninsula, noting the South-North Korean talks that have been restored by the Winter Games. In response, Sipilä said that Helsinki supports the Korean government's efforts to resolve North Korean issues peacefully, and added that the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games would promote peace on the peninsula, as they are true “Peace Olympics.”

The two prime ministers agreed that both countries have maintained and developed ever-closer cooperation in the fields of diplomacy, security, economy and other area since diplomatic relations began in 1973. Seoul and Helsinki recently expanded cooperation to cover defense, the environment and development in Arctic regions.
