Four days before the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit, the Ministry of National Defense has stopped broadcasting through loudspeakers along the border with North Korea.

The broadcasts have been on and off, depending on the situation between the two Koreas, for many years. This time, they have been in operation for 2 years and 3 months.

Defense ministry spokesperson Choi Hyun-soo said, “In order to alleviate military tensions between the two Koreas and to create an appropriate atmosphere for peaceful negotiations at the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit, we stopped broadcasting at 0:00 on April 23"

She added, "We hope that this move will cease mutual slander and propaganda, and instead lead to the achievement of peace and a new beginning."
