The National Security Council on Dec. 13 held a meeting at Cheong Wa Dae on a proposed international air route between both Koreas as well progress in the implementation of an inter-Korean military agreement.
Seoul and Pyeongyang have made rapid progress in carrying out the agreement after holding three inter-Korean summits this year.
The meeting, chaired by National Security Director Chung Eui-yong, saw standing council members review the overall progress made in the agreement including joint verification of the removal of guard posts within the Demilitarized Zone, prohibition of hostile acts, disarming the Joint Security Area in the truce village of Panmunjeom and joint excavation of the remains of soldiers killed in action during the Korean War. The members also agreed to closely work with related ministries.
Also on the agenda was the proposed opening of an international air route between the two Koreas, with all air carriers in addition to those in Korea set to greatly benefit from the measure.
Attending the meeting were Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha, Unification Minister Cho Myoung-Gyon, National Defense Minister Jeong Kyeong-doo, National Intelligence Service Director Suh Hoon and Presidential Chief of Staff Im Jong-seok.
