"The PyeongChang Olympics marks a history of miraculous success."

Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon said this on Feb. 9 at a ceremony commemorating the first anniversary of the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics at PyeongChang Olympic Stadium in Gangwon-do Province.

"The PyeongChang Olympics marked a new start in the history of inter-Korean division," he said, adding, "The Korea Peninsula has thus gone from a state of tension to peace."

Mentioning last year's three inter-Korean summits and the first summit between North Korea and the U.S., the prime minister said, "The upcoming second summit between the North and the U.S. will produce more concrete results for the Korean Peninsula."


              


Volunteer workers, military personnel, police and residents of the province who took part in the hosting of the Olympics also attended the ceremony. The event also featured performances by nongak (traditional Korean farmers' music) and dance troupes and a choir as well as the symbolic release of dove-shaped balloons.

Other ceremonies marking the anniversary were also held at Olympic Park in Seoul and Ice Arena in Gangwon-do's capital of Gangneung.
