Cheong Wa Dae has expressed "strong concern" over North Korea's firing of two short-range projectiles on the morning of Sept. 10.

The presidential office on Sept. 10 held an emergency meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) at 8:10 a.m. chaired by the council's director Chung Eui-yong.

The NCS's standing committee expressed strong concerns over the North's consecutive launches of projectiles and reviewed the overall situation of military security on the Korean Peninsula.

Before this meeting, the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) in Seoul said, "This morning at 6:35 a.m. and 7:12 a.m., two short-range projectiles were seen fired eastward in the area of Gaechon, Pyeongannam-do Province, in North Korea," adding, "The missiles flew for an estimated maximum distance of 330 km."

Further analysis was being done on the maximum altitude and landing spots of the two projectiles, as well as whether they were ballistic missiles.

The JCS said, "Both the (South) Korean and U.S. intelligence authorities are prepared for additional launches by North Korea and maintain a state of preparedness by monitoring and tracking related movements," reiterating Seoul's call for Pyeongyang to halt actions that offer no help in reducing tension on Korean Peninsula.
