The Korean Culture and Information Service (KOCIS) on Nov. 12 signed a business agreement on cooperation in communications for the 2019 ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations)-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit from Nov. 25-26 in Busan.

KOCIS Director Kim Tae-hoon, Arirang TV CEO Lee Seung-youl, KBS Executive Managing Director for News and Sports Kim Jong-myong and Yonhap News' Integrated News Editor-in-chief Lee Sung-han signed the accord at Seoul Foreign Press Center.

The agreement aims to raise mutual understanding between the people of Korea and ASEAN member states through the setup of an international media center (IMC) for the summit, support for domestic and foreign journalists, and operation of communications activities in and out of the country. The IMC will be at Exhibition Hall 1 of the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center, better known as BEXCO, from Nov. 24-27.

"The 2019 ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit is extremely important as an event preparing for a new leap forward of the New Southern Policy," adding, "By successfully operating the IMC and effectively connecting and promoting events in Korea and overseas, we expect to promote the results of the New Southern Policy so far in and out of the country, and play a role in expanding the consensus for the development of Korea-ASEAN relations."
