The government on March 22 announced a set of strengthened measures for social distancing aimed at preventing infection clusters, urging the public to adhere to the rules for the next 15 days (through April 5).

Minister of Health and Welfare Park Neunghoo told a news briefing at Government Complex-Seoul, "We're now past the peak of new COVID-19 cases, but it's too early to be complacent, and there's still a possibility that the virus could spread further."

"We ask that the public practice social distancing so that we have preventive measures in place while continuing on with our daily lives."

The minister asked the public to limit movement to commuting to and from work, while refraining from going out, holding gatherings and taking trips. He added that people should stay home and rest if fever or respiratory symptoms appear, as well as maintain good hygiene by thoroughly washing their hands and practicing good coughing etiquette.

He also asked businesses to allow their employees to work from home or allow flexible working hours, and hold meetings through videoconferencing.

The guidelines also mentioned the expansion of telecommuting in the public sector and flexible work and lunch hours. Public libraries, swimming pools, museums and other government-run facilities will be temporarily closed.

To prevent infection clusters, inspections will be conducted to ensure that no public gatherings are held during the 15-day period. Earlier on March 21, the government told religious groups and other organizations not to hold public gatherings at places of worship and public spaces.
