Korea has pledged USD 700,000 worth of humanitarian aid to Colombia, Honduras and Nicaragua to help them recover from the damage inflicted by Hurricane Iota, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Nov. 27.

Iota was a Category 5 hurricane, the strongest on the scale and followed the Category 4 Hurricane Eta, which hit the Latin American region earlier this month.

While people were recovering from Eta, Iota struck to inflict even more damage on lives and property.

The government had earlier provided USD 700,000 in aid to five Central American countries ---Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama and El Salvador -- after they were struck by Eta, and decided on additional aid due to Iota.

"We hope that this aid will help the people of Colombia, Honduras and Nicaragua, for whom things have grown harder due to being hit by a hurricane stronger than its predecessor Hurricane Eta," the ministry said in a statement.
