The Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation and Korea Defense Veterans Association announced on May 31 that they designated the period from May 31 to June 6 "U.S.-ROK (Republic of Korea) Alliance Memorial Week."

The foundation is based in Seoul and the association in Gainesville, Virginia, a suburb of Washington.

Memorial Day in Korea is June 6 and the same holiday in the U.S. falls on the last Monday of May, or the 31st this year.

"We welcome our members, partners, and supporters to think about, speak about, visit grave sites and war memorials, attend local commemorations, and share their stories of those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our two nations," the two organizations said.

"Though of two different cultures and languages, Koreans and Americans share an unbreakable bond forged in battle by those who fell, and by those who remember them."

They added, "Let us never forget their sacrifices."
