The number of people who received their first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine on June 10 exceeded 10 million, 105 days after vaccinations began nationwide on Feb. 26.
Korea Disease Prevention and Control Agency Commissioner Jeong Eun-kyeong told a regular news briefing of the Central Disease Control Headquarters that day, "As of June 10 at 11 a.m., provisional data said the number of people who received the first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine was an estimated 10.06 million, or 19.6% of the population."
"If we achieve the goal of 13 million, or more than 25% of the population, within the first half of this year and maintain existing quarantine guidelines, the number of new infections will plummet further after mid-July."
According to the headquarters, 53.6% of people ages 65-74 received the first shot of a COVID-19 vaccine.
The inoculation of Janssen vaccines scheduled from June 10-16 will go to approximately 890,000 personnel in the military, reserve forces or civil defense through reservations.
Commissioner Jeong said, “People can also set appointments to get leftover Janssen vaccines on a given day in the same manner for the AstraZeneca vaccine via SNS or online platforms such as Naver or Kakao.”
“People age 30 or older can make a reservation for leftover vaccines in the same way as for the AstraZeneca vaccine.”
“For a quick return to normal, it is extremely important to get safely vaccinated and strictly follow quarantine guidelines in daily life.”
