For a safe, sound and pleasant holiday
The National Emergency Management Agency said Wednesday (Jan. 21) that it will do its best to make the most important of the traditional Korean holidays (Jan. 26) accident-free. Seollal, or the Lunar New Year holidays fall on Jan. 25 to 27 this year.
The agency, which operates under the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, said it will operate a national emergency situation room at full capacity and provide people with timely information on available hospitals and pharmacies near people's residences.
With heavy snowfall expected on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 23 to 24), the agency will deploy snow-removing equipment at about 350 nationwide spots highly likely to suffer congestion and freezing.
From Saturday (Jan. 23) to Tuesday (Jan. 27), the 183 fire stations nationwide will carry out special security operations, and ambulances will be dispatched to train and bus stations. Firefighting helicopters will hover over major national highways in case of emergency.
