  Towns lying along the upper Geumgang
Jincheon, Cheongwon and Cheongju

Jincheon and Cheongju have a large number of Geumgang River tributaries along with open farming fields, thus offering low cost and peaceful tourist attractions. Jincheon's Nong Bridge, which has stood strong through thousands of floods, draws attention to its humble but solid structure. Cheongju provides a variety of trekking courses.

Gilsangsa (temple)
This is the place where General Kim Yusin of the Silla Dynasty (57 B.C. - A.D. 935) was born.

Botapsa (temple)
This amazing temple from the Goryeo Dynasty (A.D. 918 - 1392) was built using no nails or pegs to join the wood together.

Jincheon Nong (centipede) Bridge
This bridge from the Goryeo Dynasty resembling a centipede is arguably the oldest bridge still standing in Asia.

Chopyeong reservoir
The promenades surrounding the reservoir make it good for a stroll. It'a short walk from the Nong Bridge.

Unbo
The master painter Kim Ki-chang, whose pen name was Unbo, worked and stayed here from 1984 to 2001. The place houses a museum, a couple of parks and Unbo's grave.

Sangdang Sanseong (Sangdang Mountain Fortress)
This fortress is presumed to have been built in the Baekje era. The route around the fortress is an easy walk with gentle slopes.

Cheongju Early Printing Museum
The museum on the site of Heungdeoksaji Temple in Cheongju houses printing equipment from the Silla, Goryeo and Joseon periods.

Yongdu Temple's flagstaff
This flagstaff, National Treasure No. 41, used to stand in Yongdu-sa (Yongdu temple), built in the Goryeo Dynasty. The temple itself was destroyed after a series of invasions.

Cheongju Tree-lined Street
The street of arched platanus trees at the entrance to the city of Cheongju runs for as long as 6 kilometers, making itself a famous shooting location, The street stretches from Cheongju Interchange to Jukcheon Bridge.

  Deep into Baekje Culture
Daecheongho (Grand Clear Lake) and Gongju City

The great lake Daecheongho is not only the major water source for citizens of Daejeon, but also offers a variety of driveways and promenades. Gongju, a city that lies close to Daecheong Dam, was a one time capital of the Baekje Kingdom and holds the tomb of King Muryeong.

Munui Cultural Properties Complex
This is a great place to look around traditional buildings such as Hanok (Korean-style housing) and blacksmith shops. There are also a couple of great museums.

Hyunam-sa (Hyunam temple)
This temple of the Baekje period provides a great view of Daecheongho (pond).

Daecheong Dam
The dam, 72 meters high and 495 meters wide, sits in the middle of the Geum River. The 360 degree view from the observatory is awesome.

Yuseong Hot Springs Resort
The resort is approximately 11 kilometers west of downtown Daejeon. The water here is said to be good for various kinds of skin diseases, digestive disorders, obesity, and gynecological diseases.

  Baengma River runs through the ancient city of Baekje
Buyeo and Nonsan

Geumgang's tributary running through the Buyeo region is also called Baengma River, around which are many ruins and remains of the Baekje Kingdom. Nonsan City, which is more well-known for its army training camp, is another site which preserves Baekje relics.

Gwanchoksa (temple)
The stone lantern in the temple, which is National Treasure No. 9, can be seen from afar at night. The lantern brightens up the temple's standing Buddha beautifully.

Tapjeongho (pond)
It's the second largest pond in Chungcheongnam-do (South Chungcheong Province) after Yedang Pond. The pond was built in 1944 to provide irrigation for surrounding villages.
