A dollar for Daejeon Winter Festival

Enjoy the Daejeon Winter Festival 2009 for less than a dollar.

Daejeon Culture and Arts Center in Seo-gu, Daejeon City is hosting a grand show of amateur performers from Jan. 30 to Feb. 15. There will be orchestras, choirs, serenades, big bands, dance and drama acts at the Center¡¯s Art Hall, Ensemble Hall and separately at the Daedok-gu Culture and Art Center in Eumnae-dong, Daedeok, 15 minutes away by car.

A total of 25 performances will be given at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, 7 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is a chance for performers from amateur clubs and bands to perform in a big show and for audiences to have a good night out at the rock bottom price of 1,000 won.

The annual festival began in 2007 with 10 groups. Six additional acts will be featured this year: ¡°Reminiscence¡± by the KAIST Orchestra, composed of students attending the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology; ¡°Sweet Valentine with Pan Flute¡± by Pan Flute in Love; and ¡°Heungbu¡¯s Gourd¡± by Dasombari, made up of club members aged over 60.

Returning art groups include the Daejeon Festival Symphony Orchestra, Daejeon Guitar Orchestra, Ewha Chorus, ACIST a cappella group, Magic Pan Flute Ensemble, Han¡¯s More Dance Company, Yu Eun-ho Band and others.
