Enjoy the Daejeon Winter Festival 2009 for less than a dollar.

Daejeon Culture and Arts Center in Seo-gu, Daejeon City is hosting a grand show of amateur performers from Jan. 30 to Feb. 15. There will be orchestras, choirs, serenades, big bands, dance and drama acts at the Center’s Art Hall, Ensemble Hall and separately at the Daedok-gu Culture and Art Center in Eumnae-dong, Daedeok, 15 minutes away by car.

A total of 25 performances will be given at 7:30 p.m. on weekdays, 7 p.m. on Saturday and 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is a chance for performers from amateur clubs and bands to perform in a big show and for audiences to have a good night out at the rock bottom price of 1,000 won.

The annual festival began in 2007 with 10 groups. Six additional acts will be featured this year: “Reminiscence” by the KAIST Orchestra, composed of students attending the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology; “Sweet Valentine with Pan Flute” by Pan Flute in Love; and “Heungbu’s Gourd” by Dasombari, made up of club members aged over 60.

Returning art groups include the Daejeon Festival Symphony Orchestra, Daejeon Guitar Orchestra, Ewha Chorus, ACIST a cappella group, Magic Pan Flute Ensemble, Han’s More Dance Company, Yu Eun-ho Band and others.
