To preserve and expand Korea’s position as the 12th largest economy, the Roh Administration
is pushing for reforms to strengthen the role of markets. By ensuring transparency, consistent
application of laws, and a level playing field for all businesses, President Roh hopes to maintain
economic vitality.
The U.S. and Korea are interdependent economic partners. The U.S. is Korea’s biggest trading
partner and investment source. And Korea is the seventh largest trading partner and sixth largest
export market of the U.S.
In the years ahead, the Roh Administration seeks to take a leading role in the global economy. The new
President plans to make Korea the economic hub of North East Asia—an area responsible
for one-fifth of global production.
Taking this dynamic alliance to the next level, President Roh is confident that his summit with President
Bush will confirm their strong ties and forge a mutually beneficial partnership for the future.
