
The Korean animation ¡°Aachi & Ssipak¡± (2006) won the Best Animated Film Award at the 2007 Sigtes International Film Festival in
Spain.
Studio 2.0 the distributor of the film said ¡°Aachi & Ssipak,¡± directed by Jo Beom-Jin, won the best animation award at the 40th Sitges Fantastic Cinema Festival on Sunday (Oct. 13).
The Sitges Fantastic Cinema Festival is one of three major fantastic cinema festivals in the world together with the Fantasporto Film Festival in
Portugal and one in
Brussels, Belgium.
Meanwhile another Korean movie, ¡°I'm a Cyborg but that's Ok¡± directed by Park Chan-wook, was selected as best script for this year. His other movie ¡°Lady Vengeance¡± also won a best actress award in 2005.
¡°Aachi & Ssipak¡± already won the Grand Prix at the 2007 Seoul International Comic Animation awards and was invited to various animation festivals abroad -- the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France and Seattle International Film Festival.
The animation, which features the voices of popular local actors, depicts a society in the distant future that has run out of all natural resources and is forced to depend on human excrement for fuel. The film received favorable reviews for its bold imagination and wild parody.
