
Thirty top Korean celebrities have formed a cheer squad for the Korean team for the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games to be held from Aug. 8 to 24 in Beijing, China.
Baseball player-turned-television host Kang Byung-kyu leads the team, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korean Olympic Committee.
The cheer squad, made up of 30 volunteers of top celebrities, includes singer Lim Chang-jung, Tae Jin-a, Joo Young-hoon, Crown J, model and T.V. host Hyun Young, pop group Cool, comedian Park Kyung-lim, singer Park Sang-min among others.
A formal ceremony was held at Seoul Olympic Hall, Olympic Park at 3 p.m. on Jul. 25, along with the declaration of the Korean team, to officially announce the squad's formation.
The squad will go to Beijing during the Olympics and cheer together with Koreans living in China.
Officials at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism say that the cheering by celebrities will boost the 267 Korean athletes throughout the games.
