The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand hosted traditional wedding to introduce Korean traditional culture and costumes on 6th May at 4 PM at 'Sarangchae', the Korean restaurant in Chiang Mai.
This is the second traditional wedding after the first wedding in Bangkok was held on 25th March. Among over 30 couples' request to the center's SNS from 9th February to 15th March, the story of Mr. Nagornpong (32 years old) and Mrs. Patchareerat Aroonrattanataewan (29 years old) had been chosen. The couple met at the concert as the orchestra member and the singer of the choir, and married in 2019. They were into the charm of Hanbok during their travel in Korea, and decided to experience the Korean traditional wedding. However, due to Covid-19, their flight ticket to Korea was cancelled in April 2020. The couple requested the center's traditional wedding to revive their dream to the Korean traditional wedding.
The wedding ceremony started with the groom entering and presented a wild goose to the bride’s mother. As geese were known as mate for life, this gesture is symbolic of the fidelity in Korean traditional wedding.
After that, the bride entered, and they bowed each other. They made a promise to be each other’s better half. Then, they shared a cup of traditional liquor, by the groom helper who bound the red thread on her left hand and the bride helper who bound the blue thread on her right hand. This means that two persons from two families finally become a unit of one.
