Events at KCCs abroad

The Korean Cultural Center in Hungary will host the exhibition of the Korean Calligraphy Team ‘Munbangsau’ in November which was dedicated to Shin Saimdang (1504-1551), the greatest female artist in the Korean Joseon Era.

Shin Saimdang’s name, that actually is a pen-name, is known at each corner of the Korean Peninsula, and even far beyond, all over the world. She was an outstanding artist, poet and calligraphist of her age in a rigid, male-controlled Confusian society.

The translated versions of her two poems have been studied and written by Munbangsau team in three calligraphic styles: Panmonche, „Sejong style” (판본체), Chongchache, „Classic Gungche style” (정자체) and Huellimche, „Cursive Gungche Style” (흘림체). In order to provide full esthetic and visual adventure, some of the same poems have been written in different calligraphic styles. The paintings are the replicas of her most famous painting works which tell us about Shin’s Saimdang’s exceptional knowledge and love of the nature surrounding us then, and now.

The exhibition can be visited in the Korean Cultural Center in Hungary from 24 November, 2022.
