Minister of Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min on May 13 told a meeting of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters that the number of such flights will be raised by 230 next month.
The number of overseas flights per week was raised by 112 from 420 last month to 532 this month. June will see the figure elevated to 762.
The management system for passengers arriving from abroad will also see revision.
From May 23, immigration authorities will accept both PCR and rapid antigen tests taken within 24 hours for those who took the tests before entering the country. The purpose is to raise inspection convenience and reduce the cost burden.
From June 1, the overall number of tests will be reduced to two from three before and after entering Korea. Visitors can also take a PCR test within three days of arrival instead of on the arrival day.
Children under age 12 who enter the country with fully vaccinated parents from next month will be exempt from self-isolation, instead of children under 6.
Minors ages 12-17 who received their second vaccine shot at least 14 days ago will be considered fully vaccinated. The previous regulation made them get the second shot at least two weeks prior within the last 180 days or receive a third.
