A large-scale exhibition featuring works by 302 sculptors active domestically will open this weekend at Ttukseom Hangang Park in Seoul's Gwangji-gu District.

The K-Sculpture Organizing Committee on Aug. 18 said Crown Haitai Confectionery and the Seoul Metropolitan Government from Aug. 20 to Sept. 21 will host the "Hangang Sculpture Project 2022: Enjoyable Tour" at the park.

The event will showcase about 1,100 works by 302 leading domestic sculptors to promote the beauty and excellence of Korean sculptures abroad. This is the country's lone outdoor event of its kind held on a global scale.

The committee said the event's theme is to heal the minds of people worn out by the COVID-19 pandemic and help them rediscover relaxation and appreciate the beauty of sculptures.

Many famous domestic sculptors are participating in the exhibition. The outdoor display features a work from each participating artist including Kim Young Won's "Shadow of Shadow (Sum-1)," Park Heon Youl's "Conversation 201," Kim Kyung Min's "Secret," Park Chan Girl's "David" and Yang Tae Geun's "Towards the Han River."

Another exhibition will allow visitors to see the art of participating sculptors in one glance.

A large tent 25 m wide and 50 m long will also be set up by the park's music fountain to host an indoor exhibition, which will feature about 800 small-scale works by 302 sculptors at 20 booths. Six curators and docents will work during the exhibition's opening hours to explain the sculptures to visitors.

The exhibition's supervising director Kim Sung-Ho said, "This is a precious opportunity to directly showcase Korean sculptures to figures in global art," adding, "We will make various efforts to promote to the world the beauty of Korean sculptures."
