The Bulgarian Embassy in Seoul, with support from the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Dec. 20 last year hosted an event for a celebratory logo selected in a contest to mark the diplomatic milestone. The grand prize went to Ivaylo Todorov and his logo was inspired by the flags of both countries, whose designs he combined to create a new and unique symbol.

Over the past 30 years, Bulgaria and Korea have built a comprehensive and forward-looking partnership based on shared values and mutual trust, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said in a recent letter to his Korean counterpart, President Moon Jae-in.

The two leaders exchanged greetings on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of bilateral ties.

President Radev said the excellent contacts between both nations are evidence of active high-level dialogue, a broad and stable legal framework for relations, strong trade and economic ties, and cooperation in various fields including information technology, energy, tourism, education and science.

"Our sincere desire is to continue our mutual efforts to realize the potential of bilateral relations and raise them to the level of a strategic partnership," the Bulgarian leader said. He also cited plans to achieve balanced trade, boost Bulgarian exports, attract Korean investment, jointly set up high-tech industries and R&D centers in Bulgaria, and develop tourism.

"We commend the successful international cooperation between Bulgaria and Korea on a number of topics of global and regional importance," President Radev said, highlighting the bilateral partnership for sustainable development, the fight against climate change, the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons and the response to COVID-19.

Bulgaria will continue to deepen the strategic partnership between the European Union and Korea, he added.

President Moon said in his letter, "Since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1990, our two countries have steadily expanded cooperation in various fields including politics, economy, society and culture."

He added that strong trust is at the heart of developing bilateral relations and expressed hope for strengthening the partnership and ties between the people of Bulgaria and Korea.
