President Park Geun-hye was ranked 11th on "The World's 100 Most Powerful Women" list announced by Forbes magazine on May 26.
Forbes said that President Park is overseeing the world's 14th largest economy despite the ongoing confrontation with North Korea. The magazine also reported that the president has had the weight of the Sewol ferry tragedy on her shoulders, among other things. On the upside, the president recently signed a Korea-Canada free trade agreement and an environmental cooperation treaty with China and Japan, it said.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was chosen as No. 1 on the list, followed by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Forbes said it compiled the list based on candidates' influence on politics and the economy and their presence in the media, among other criteria.
