A Flower above the Clouds, the first movie collaboration between Myanmar and Korea

On Sunday, February 9th, 2020, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Embassy of Myanmar in Indonesia organized a movie screening event with Myanmar-Korea first collaboration movie, "A Flower above the Clouds (구름 위의 )”, in CGV Grand Indonesia. This romantic-drama movie begins at 5:30 pm (West Indonesia Time) and was attended by ambassador delegations, members of KCC in Indonesia, Korea.net honorary reporter, etc.

A Flower above the Clouds movie screening was attended by ambassador delegations,

In his speech, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Indonesia, Mr. Kim Chang-Beom, said that this movie has played in the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit in Busan in 2019 and this is the first movie collaboration between Myanmar and Korea. “With this film, the viewers can enjoy the beautiful views of the North Chin Province, Myanmar, because 70% of the film took there. In addition, viewers can also enjoy views of Seoul and Busan, Korea, especially Gwangan Bridge,” Mr. Kim Chang-Beom said. Besides that, it is an honor for Indonesia to enjoy this movie, after it played in Singapore also.

In addition, the director for this film, Mr. Zin Yaw MG MG, also presented at the screening event. Mr. Zin Yaw said that nowadays many Koreans visited Myanmar to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Myanmar and also visited the meditation center in Myanmar. While through the K-Pop and K-Drama many Myanmar people felt in love with Korean culture. Hopefully this film, which also fully supported by Aung San Suu Kyi, can be the foundation of cooperation between Myanmar and Korean film industry in the future.

Interestingly, the film starred by Ryu Sang-Wook (Korea) as Jaewon, Wutt Hmone Shwe Yi (Myanmar) as Hnin Sett (Snow) and Kyaw Htet Aung (Myanmar) as Htan uses balance of color to express the emossions. This movie uses yellow to describe a happy expression, while blue and gray is used to describe a sad and dark expression.

Watching the film has awaken my spirits and make me excited to achieve my dreams. Maybe at first we felt fear, fear will not support the surrounding environment, especially the new people we meet, but that was not the reason for us to keep silent and trapped in the cage. As discussed by the main character that people need to go to struggle to reach their dream. And I agree with the words from the main character that "sometimes people are just like baby birds, they are afraid to fly for the first time, but when the time is come, they will able to fly."
