The 7th World Calligraphy Biennale of Jeollabuk-do

Calligraphy is the essence of Sinosphere yet due to its heavy influence in East Asia, the genre itself was regarded a part of art. Before the development and full usage of Hangeul, Korea too, played a part in enriching the calligraphy culture of the East. The 2009 World Calligraphy Biennale chose mutual understanding as a subject for internal harmony not only with different cultural spheres but also between different calligraphy schools and art genres. The biennale looks to enrich the quality of calligraphy and lay a foundation for Korean calligraphy to find a larger market.

There will be a total of 27 events including 11 exhibitions, two academic seminars, nine incidental events and five associated events. The exhibitions will include calligraphy sprout in Europe, Hangeul calligraphy of Korean traditional songs, calligraphy on Hanji (paper) lanterns and folding sceens among others.
