2009 Cheongju International Craft Biennale

The 2009 Cheongju International Craft Biennale is made up mainly of exhibition, contest and fair followed by seminar, forum, overseas booths, experience programs and more. The exhibition hall no. 1 titled “Encounter” will display works of some 50 artists from 20 nations and hall no.2 titled “Empty Space,” an interaction between crafts and other genres of art including fashion, design, music, dance and film. Exhibition no.3 themed “Craft City Project” would showcase craft works that could add more class to various historical sites in Korea.


An additional 60 or more booths dedicated to craft market would be installed. People can try making their own works at pottery room, Hanji (Korean traditional paper) room or glass room. The guest country for Cheongju Biennale for this year is Canada. Craft works of some 200 Canadian artists will be displayed. The biennale first launched in 1999, is widely lauded for its contribution to the craft world in Korea.
